TWO men have been arrested for attempting to ram a Garda vehicle after cops responded to cars being torched.
Gardai were called into action after the alarm was raised to a number of vehicles being set on fire near Brookfield Road in Tallaght, Co Dublin.
A number of Garda units responded to the incident and public order units were also deployed to manage the situation.
No injuries were reported at the time.
During the operation an attempt to ram an official Garda vehicle occurred as cops were trying to deal with a dangerous driving incident.
The vehicle in question was later located in the Co Wicklow area after the Air Support Unit, Public Order Unit, divisional traffic and several units from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (South and East) were brought in for assistance.
Two men were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident and are currently being detained at a Garda station in the Dublin area.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai have arrested two males following public order, criminal damage and dangerous driving incidents that occurred between Tallaght, Dublin 24, and the M50 southbound, this morning, Saturday 24th August 2024.
“A number of Garda units responded to incidents near Brookfield Road, Tallaght. A number of vehicles were set on fire in the area.
“Public order units were deployed to manage the situation. No injuries were reported at the time.
“During an incident of dangerous driving, an attempt to ram an official Garda vehicle occurred.
“With the assistance of the Air Support Unit, Public Order Unit, divisional traffic and several units from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (South and East), the vehicle was located in the Co. Wicklow area.
“Two men were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. They are currently detained at a Garda station in the Dublin area.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
